Community Outreach There will be a cholesterol screening at Hilldale on 3/6 -Sign up for 2 hours shifts (DPH-1s) or shifts of any length (other pharm. students) IV. Appointment announcements a. These positions need a little more training and thus elections occur earlier in the semester. b. Appointment process: An e-mail has been sent out with the application. The appointments will be made on 2/9 and announced on 2/16. Training will occur over the next three months and all new officers will be sworn in at the May general membership meeting. c. OI *side note: there will be an informational health fair at Legislative Day on 2/11 *side note: the Glogerm campaign has begun; slots are open and available to sign-up for. DPH-1s, you need to sign up for 4 slots in order to get credit. d. OD *side note: The 4th-6th grade school presentations are coming up in Feb and Mar; the presentations will occur at local schools from 8-10am. Register online and select that Mail Check option so that you can register for free as a student. c. Learn about current legislative issues (on both the state and federal level), learn more about the PEB and meet current legislators while promoting pharmacy. d. Tuesday 2/10 -Legislative Reception 5-7pm -Inn on the Park Hotel (Top of the Park) -Free food and drink -Students are urged to invite legislators to the reception in order to speak with them in a "less formal" manner---They want YOUR vote! e. Wednesday 2/11 -Events occur at the Inn on the Park Hotel from 9am-4pm -see www.pswi.org for a full agenda *Tips on speaking to legislators: -Speaking with aides is cool too, they have some legit power -Be polite, positive and brief -Tell them how the issue impacts YOU-they enjoy personal stories Consultation Exam UPDATE: The exam will now be an online formatÑthis was an emergency rule and will not hold authority forever. It now needs to be passed onto the state legislators. The importance of consulting with every patient on every prescription is something that we as students can speak with legislators about at Legislative Day this year. VI. Clinical Skills Competition -Congratulations again to the winners: Catherine Pearce and Jessica O'Laughlin who represented us at the ASHP Midyear Meeting. a) 2 hours to analyze a case (the same case is used across the nation) -#1, #2 and #3 priority lists -determine goals, develop a plan and then determing monitoring parameters b) 2 minute case presentation to a panel of judges *Strategies: Find a partner that you work well with. Ideally, someone who has different interests than you. Divide and Conquer. Trust your partner. Do the local competition every year that you are able in order to build confidence. Practice your oral presentation during your 2 hour preparation. As part of this, anticipate and prepare questions and answers that might occur.
