Operation Airways
The goal of Operation Airways is to promote healthy lungs in individuals of the community. We do this through various activities such as conducting asthma screenings, proper inhaler use, and smoking prevention talks at local middle schools. This organization has allowed students to develop community service projects relating to airway health using their drug expertise and promoting the profession of pharmacy. Every student must be trained in the use of peak flow meters and what their values may indicate prior to participation in an asthma screening. This training involves hands on learning as well as role playing in order to familiarize the student with the apparatus. After training completion, students are able to administer asthma screenings. In retrospect, the organization has come along way and will undoubtedly continue to provide pharmacy students opportunities to serve the community and continue their growth as a health care professional.
