Career and Professional Affairs

APhA…ASHP…PSW…MRM…Ever wonder what these acronyms mean?  The VPs of Career and Professional Affairs are your go-to guides through the world of WSPS acronyms.  They serve to connect WSPS student members with the national organizations that they also have membership in.  They work to organize yearly trips to the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin (PSW) annual meeting, the Midyear Regional Meeting (MRM), the mid-year clinical meeting and residency showcase for the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) as well as the annual meeting for the American Pharmacists Association (APhA).  In addition to planning the details of these trips, the VPs of Career and Professional Affairs work to help WSPS members receive reimbursement for their travel expenses!  This year, the meetings and their dates are as follows:

PSW: August 27-29, 2009 in the Wisconsin Dells
MRM: TBA in Toledo, OH
ASHP: December 6-10, 2009 in Las Vegas, NV
APhA: March 12-15, 2010 in Washington D.C.

The big event of the year for the VPs of Career and Professional Affairs is planning the annual DPH-1 White Coat Ceremony. As part of the PSW Educational Conference, this ceremony welcomes the new class of student pharmacists into the profession with a prestigious bright, clean, and crisp white coat. We coordinate a group of first year student volunteers into separate committees to plan the entire event.  The programs, invitations, ceremony music, and keynote speaker are all picked by the students. We even hold an ironing party to make sure all the coats look perfect for the big day. The White Coat Ceremony for the Class of 2013 will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Monona Terrace in Madison.
