MEDiC
MEDiC My name is Korby and I am the MEDiC Outreach Program Pharmacy Coordinator and Interdisciplinary liaison. I schedule the pharmacy student volunteering, sit on the MEDiC Council, and help with any pharmacy-related projects that may benefit MEDiC.
MEDiC was started in 1990 by first and second year medical students to provide acute healthcare for underserved members of the Madison community while educating students. There are currently six clinics in Madison that all serve distinct communities. Salvation Army and Grace Clinics are held on Tuesday evenings, SafeHaven and Michele Tracy Clinics are held on Wednesday nights, and ARC House and Southside Clinics are held on Saturday mornings. MEDiC is sustained solely through donations and doctor and student volunteers. Pharmacy students volunteering with MEDiC will take patient histories, vital signs, document chief complaint and assist medical, nursing, PA and PT students with physical exams where they feel comfortable. Students then present their case to the doctor, and then revisit the patient with the doctor. Volunteering with MEDiC is extremely rewarding and almost everyone who helps out can’t wait to return!
