MEDiC
MEDiC was started in 1990 by first and second year medical students to provide healthcare to underserved members of the Madison community while educating students. There are currently six clinics in Madison that all serve distinct communities. MEDiC is sustained solely through donations and volunteers.
Pharmacy students can help in MEDiC by taking patient histories and assisting medical, nursing, and PA students with physical exams where they feel comfortable. Any level pharmacy student can volunteer and no training is required. Although volunteering with MEDiC and working with real patients can be scary, the lessons learned and experience gained is invaluable. Even if students don’t feel comfortable taking vital signs like blood pressure, most patients just want someone to talk to about their current situation. The greatest thing volunteer students can offer is their time and a good pair of ears. Volunteering with MEDiC is extremely rewarding and almost everyone who helps out can’t wait to return!
